Cole Palmer delivered a remarkable solo performance in Chelsea’s 4-2 victory over Brighton, making Premier League history as the first player to score four goals in the first half of a match. The 22-year-old showcased his growing influence within the team, playing a pivotal role in securing the Blues’ fourth consecutive win across all competitions.
Palmer’s first goal came in the 21st minute when he linked up with teammate Nicolas Jackson to equalize after Brighton’s early lead. Just minutes later, he converted a penalty after Jadon Sancho was fouled in the box. This brought Palmer’s Premier League penalty tally to 10, just one shy of the record for most penalties scored without a miss.
A stunning 25-yard free-kick saw Palmer complete his hat-trick before the half-hour mark, further underlining his ability to deliver in crucial moments. The midfielder added his fourth goal just before halftime, finishing calmly from a well-placed pass by Sancho.
Despite Brighton’s early goal from Georginio Rutter and another in response to a defensive error by Chelsea, Palmer’s dominance in the first half was insurmountable. The second half offered fewer chances, but Chelsea remained in control, with Jackson having a shot cleared off the line and Palmer narrowly missing out on a fifth goal during a one-on-one with Brighton’s goalkeeper.
Chelsea’s win moves them up to fourth in the Premier League table, one point behind Manchester City and Arsenal, and two behind Liverpool. Palmer’s display further establishes him as a key player in Chelsea’s push for success this season.
