Egypt Triumphs Over Spain 2-1

Ibrahim Adel netted two goals to propel Egypt into the men’s football quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics, securing the top spot in their group with a 2-1 victory over Spain on Tuesday.

Spain, already assured of a place in the knockout stage, aimed to finish first in Group C but was overtaken by a determined Egyptian side in Bordeaux.

In the group’s other match, the Dominican Republic played to a 1-1 draw with Uzbekistan, who had already been eliminated. The draw was not enough for the Dominican Republic to advance to the next round.

The final quarterfinal matchups will be determined after Wednesday’s games. The top two teams from each of the four groups will move on to the knockout stage.

Adel’s first goal came from a cross by Zizo late in the first half. He scored his second in the 62nd minute, skillfully maneuvering around Spanish goalkeeper Alejandro Iturbe.

Spain managed a late goal through Samu Omorodion, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.

In the other group match, Rafael Nunez scored a penalty early in the second half to give the Dominican Republic the lead, but Alisher Odilov equalized in the 58th minute for Uzbekistan.
