Former Arsenal and Ipswich Town footballer Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been charged in connection with a major drugs seizure at Stansted Airport. The 33-year-old, who now plays for Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship, was arrested after around £600,000 worth of cannabis was discovered in two suitcases that had arrived from Bangkok. The authorities have charged Emmanuel-Thomas with importing Class B drugs, and he is expected to appear in court later this week.

The operation, supported by Police Scotland, led to his arrest in Inverclyde, alongside two women who were also charged but later released on bail. This case is part of a broader effort by the National Crime Agency and Border Force to crack down on drug smuggling, with harsh penalties in place for those involved in transporting illegal substances into the UK.

Emmanuel-Thomas, who began his career at Arsenal and has played for several clubs including Ipswich, Bristol City, and Aberdeen, now faces serious legal consequences.
