The 2025 TCS London Marathon is set to be a landmark event as an extraordinary lineup of world-class athletes prepares to take on the iconic race on Sunday, April 27. This year’s elite field promises unmatched excitement, featuring a blend of reigning champions, record-holders, and debutants, solidifying the race’s status as one of the premier events in global athletics.
Returning to defend their titles are Peres Jepchirchir and Alexander Mutiso Munyao. They will face fierce competition from a stellar cast that includes world record-holder Ruth Chepngetich, two-time Berlin Marathon champion Tigist Assefa, and legendary marathoner Eliud Kipchoge, who is returning to London for the first time since 2020.
The women’s field is particularly remarkable, with the three fastest marathoners in history—Chepngetich, Assefa, and Olympic champion Sifan Hassan—set to compete. They will be joined by 2021 London Marathon winner Joyciline Jepkosgei, Valencia Marathon champion Alemu Megertu, and other elite runners such as Haven Hailu, Stella Chesang, and Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi. British star Eilish McColgan will also make her much-anticipated marathon debut, adding to the intrigue.
On the men’s side, the competition is equally fierce. Alongside Mutiso and Kipchoge, who holds a personal best of 2:01:09, the lineup includes world half marathon champion Sabastian Sawe, Berlin Marathon champion Milkesa Mengesha, and 2024 Tokyo Marathon runner-up Timothy Kiplagat. Other notable participants include Abdi Nageeye, the reigning New York City Marathon champion, and Jacob Kiplimo, the two-time world cross-country champion making his marathon debut.
The global nature of the race is highlighted by a diverse field that includes record-holders and national champions from across the world. Athletes like German record-holder Amanal Petros, Australian record-holder Andrew Buchanan, and Italy’s European half marathon champion Yeman Crippa add to the event’s international appeal. Even Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee will showcase his endurance over 42.2 kilometers, further elevating the excitement.
As the 45th edition of the TCS London Marathon, this year’s race has been hailed as one of the strongest in history. With defending champions, Olympic medalists, and some of the fastest marathoners ever assembled, the event is poised to deliver thrilling moments and possibly even record-breaking performances.
